It's been 2 years since I have invested time and energy into a great cause. In 2009 I ran my first marathon for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, in the kick-ass city of New Orleans, Louisiana and finished with great success and personal accomplishment.
So, I'm doing it again! However, this time, I'm participating in something closer to my heart and my home! I am taking part in a 30-day Bikram Yoga Challenge for The GRACE Fund.
As many of you know, I discovered Bikram about a year and a half ago and stumbling upon this wonderful activity has introduced me to some of the best people I have ever met. I hate to gush about the life changing effects it had for me, but it did, and instead of getting up on my soap-box, I encourage everyone to try Bikram, just once.
A new friend I have had the pleasure of meeting through Bikram is the dedicated owner of the studio, who has 2 children she adopted with help from The GRACE Fund. Her boys are the most spirited children I have come to know, and therefore hold a special place in my heart and the whole studio's hearts. The GRACE Fund was developed to assist families who might not have the means to cover all the costs of adoption and who would like to adopt one of the children (or siblings) who seem to wait the longest for adoptive families. The fund will be used to reduce the agency fees paid by the family.
Starting October 1, I will be practicing once a day, everyday, for 30 days. IN A ROW. Since I have started Bikram I have yet to challenge myself like this. While I do go about 4-5x a week now, I often incorporate Vinyasa flows or Barkan Yoga classes, which differ tremendously from Bikram.
I am asking you to help me stay motivated and also donate to this life changing foundation. Some people have decided to donate $3.00 for every class I complete, and some .50 cents per class, and others are sharing positive words of encouragement. Anything is welcome.
I've decided to blog about it to hold myself accountable, to share my experience for others teetering on making a decision to try it themselves and also to invite people who have challenged themselves to HELP ME get through this!
