"Changing the Wolrd One Head at a Time"

For most of you that have seen me outside the yoga studio, you are aware that I sport a curly, frizzy, Afro. I have thick hair and my hair life is sometimes best described with this new Dove Commercial, starring Rashida Jones. (Hilarious. Take a peek)

Ok so, it's not that bad. I actually love my 'fro. It's liberating and I only started rocking my curls consistently, after my break-up. Ya know that neccessary change you need to shake things up? It worked. However, I also embraced them right before I started Hot Yoga...which is the reason for this post. Hot Yoga I love you, but you dry my hair out. Men, this post may not apply.

After my most recent trip to see Janelle, the most amazing, independent hair and make-up artist AND also Hot Yogi, she brought to my attention that my hair was more dry than usual. GASP.

I am always up for trying new things when she suggests them, I even follow her Beauty Blog daily. I first started going to her when she worked for Aveda and she turned me on to some really fabulous product. I was a fan not only because they helped my hair but also their ingredient mission....oh and the smell!

"Our Green Ingredient Promise at Aveda, we continually strive to increase our use of naturally derived ingredients, i.e. those in which more than 50% of the molecule comes from a plant, non-petroleum mineral, or other natural source, like water. We set other standards for use, too, like avoiding certain types of processing."

I was using the Dry Remedy line to wash and condition and their Light Element's Texuring Creme to style. I haven't strayed too much from those products however that was pre-hot yoga. Now, a year and a half later, I was upset to hear that my hair texture had changed and the most likely culprit was hot yoga.

Janelle suggested trying Wen. I also remember a friend, Casey, mentioning she had tried it. I guess when they were experimenting I didn't feel the need to change my hair routine. BUT with this news, and also in light of the challenge where I am in the heat everyday, I figured now is the best time to give it a whirl.

I emailed Casey and picked her brain. This self-proclaimed, Wen Ambassador was very helpful. Informing me where to get it (QVC) and how to use it. (Janelle describes in detail the steps, in her blog, link above)

I received my Wen yesterday! Sweet Almond Mint and Tea Tree. Right after class I got to lathering, except the beauty of this product is that there is no lather, which is part of the benefit. No stripping of those natural oils. I used quite a bit of product (40 pumps) as directed. I loved it. The smell, the silky feeling, the scalp massage I gave myself, which is part of the directions. An optional step was to apply a few pumps as leave in conditioner, after rinsing. I chose not to as a test to see if I needed it after the washing. I think next time I will use this step.
I have only used the product once, but what a difference. Less frizz, very soft. While I am not completely sold, YET..I vow to give it a couple more tries as the creator, Chaz Dean, claims he can "change your hair in 30 days."

Well Chaz, you have met your match, an Afro wearing Hot Yogi. We shall see!
