Happy Friday!
This morning I got my butt to the 6:30am class. It's always a different experience in the morning, you're stiff and still half asleep, however by the time 8 o'clock rolls around you're a new person, it's weird, but awesome. I wish I could practice every morning, but my work schedule doesn't allow it. I actually went into work late this morning because I'm heading home to my parents house straight after and knew I wouldn't be able to make the evening class. It was a small group of people this morning, the Morning Warriors. if you will. I looked to them for motivation and optimism, because like the old adage reads, when you can't find it within yourself you gotta find it SOMEWHERE. (I just made this up, but it sounds right...and something familiar from my soccer days.) This is a challenge, I'm being challenged.
I also found it in my teacher the past 2 classes. Thursday night and Friday morning Sally taught. I am taking this blog as an opportunity to share about her, because she is something to be shared about.
Where do I begin? My friend Cory, once said he met someone who lit up the room, had that light behind their eyes which made them seem so alive. I forget who he was talking about at the time, because once he started describing this person I started racking my brain for someone in my life like that. I didn't have to think to hard because Sally immediately came to mind. She's got it. She's got that light, those sunbeams shooting from her, she oozes of optimism and rational thought. I am so happy we became fast friends, I want to shout from the mountaintops, "I'm friends with Sally Murphy! You should be too!"
Her personality is contagious. We became buds when I first started yogs but became closer when she was away at training. I tried to be a support for her. I tapped into familiar experiences in my life, when I had to leave for college 2 weeks earlier than everyone else for 2-a-Days for Soccer. It was awful, however what Sally went through for training for Bikram is incomparable. Not only was I making friends during pre-season, I was also indulging in some libations with my teammates at every chance possible (Big Dogs, what what!) Sally didn't have this opportunity, the intensity of her training was insurmountable. I tried my hardest to answer every email, every text, every call and send care packages throughout the 9 weeks. I hope that I was there for her, because now she is here for me...and every other student in that room when she teaches.
She has also been back for about 3 months now and what I have really been noticing is how Sally is always striving to do better and, also, how she pays attention to the indivduals in the room. She'll correct you when you're out of alignment and point out specific details so you can better your practice and I dig it. Who doesn't love when the teacher is focusing on you? That little peice of attention holds you accountable for your practice and bottom line, makes-you-work-harder.
Sally accomplished a lot this past year all the while being a great friend. I'm so stoked to see what's in store next for her because when she puts her mind to something she follows through. I'm hoping to take that determination and put it towards this challenege.
I luh you girrrl.
Tomorrow I am off to Long Island for my best friend's baby shower! Since I'll be missing class Saturday I'm doing a double on Monday.
Class #8 on Sunday. I'm leading Silent at 4. MUSIC REQUESTS WELCOME!
Namaste peeps!
