I started to feel it yesterday morning and afternoon, I went to yoga anyway. I promised myself I would only do what felt good and not feel pressured to overextend myself. I completed most of the standing series, but the floor series was the most difficult and painful, so after Floor Bow I kind of just laid in Savasana for the remainder of class. I couldn't do sit ups or even Savasana on my stomach because my neck didn't want turn to either side.
What I did learn, is that when you have a stiff neck, you will inevitably be the creeper in class, especially in Pranayama Breathing in the begining. This standing, deep breathing exercise is the first of the series. It consists of inhaling with your chin parallel to the floor, hands underneath your chin with your elbows rising for a count of 6 seconds. On the exhale, you drop your head back and you bring your elbows back together for another count of 6 seconds. Well...my head was not capable of falling back, so therefore I was stuck standing there looking at everyone else exhaling. It took all of my energy not to laugh. I tried to make googly eyes at Sally but props to her for being the most focused teacher, EVA.
I accepted the fact that the next 90 minutes was going to suck ass because I couldn't do anything. I also hoped that this would be beneficial rather than harmful. The way I'm feeling this morning is about the same. I also, despite not wanting to at all, took some Advil last night and this morning because I needed a good night's sleep and also I needed to go to work today. I have been continuously rubbing Arnica on it like a crazy person and sitting very still. Hopefully the day off today plus a good night sleep, will have me ready to roll tomorrow.
My biggest concern is about my ability to rock out tonight at Dirty Heads?!
